Yoko Ono Becomes Longest‑Tenured Owner of New York’s Dakota Apartments

Yoko Ono, the 93‑year‑old artist and activist, is set to become the longest‑tenured homeowner in the historic Dakota building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. A penthouse unit, previously owned by the late art patron Steven Rubin, is under contract for roughly $8 million, which would extend Ono’s ownership record that began when she and John Lennon moved into the building in 1973.

The Dakota, constructed in 1884, is famed for its celebrity residents and as the site where Lennon was assassinated in 1980. Ono, who now spends most of her time at her farm, has no immediate plans to sell the property, ensuring she retains the title of longest‑standing owner among the building’s notable occupants, which have included Billy Joel, Lauren Bacall and Judy Garland.
