Yokohama announces student cultural programs for 2026
Yokohama is hosting several cultural educational programs for students in 2026.
At Yokohama Minato Mirai Hall, the ‘Reiwa 8 Heart Education Fureai Concert’ will take place from September 8 to October 16. The series features the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra and live pipe organ performances. Designed as an introduction to classical music, the program includes works by Richard Strauss and Edward Elgar. Approximately 29,000 elementary and special needs school students from across Yokohama are expected to attend the 20 scheduled performances.
Additionally, Yokohama Nigiwaiza will hold a two-day ‘Ogura Magura Acrobatics Workshop’ for elementary and junior high school students on September 19 and 27, 2026. Led by instructor Yanagiya Yukinosuke, the workshop teaches the history and techniques of traditional Japanese acrobatics, such as balancing objects on paper umbrellas. The program aims to help students develop concentration and balance through hands-on experience with traditional tools.
