Yokohama High School names new captain amid U18 national team selections
Yokohama High School baseball team updates include the appointment of Kei Kawakami as the new captain. Following the team's recent performance in the summer Koshien tournament, manager Hiroaki Murata announced that Kawakami, a second-year infielder, was the most suitable choice for the role.
Both Kawakami and second-year pitcher Tetsusaburo Kobayashi have been selected for the U18 Japan national team to compete in the 14th BFA U-18 Baseball Asia Championship in Taipei, Taiwan. Manager Murata noted that while the team will temporarily lack key players during the early stages of the Kanagawa autumn tournament, the experience gained from international competition will ultimately benefit the squad.
Additionally, attention has turned to ace pitcher Koki Oda, a top prospect for the upcoming draft. During a recent courtesy visit to Kitakyushu Mayor Kazuhisa Takeuchi, it was revealed that Oda is originally from Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, rather than Kanagawa. The mayor praised Oda's character and his expressed affection for his hometown, noting that the pitcher visited a local specialty restaurant upon his arrival.
