Major political factions, including the Liberal Democratic Party, Komeito, and the Constitutional Democratic Party, formally requested his resignation, while the Japan Innovation Party moved to submit a no-confidence motion.

Following the announcement of his resignation to his supporters on August 28, a new mayoral election is expected to be held within 50 days. Kanagawa Governor Kuroiwa expressed shock at the news, noting the impact on regional cooperation and upcoming events like the Green EXPO.
