Yokomakura Farm offers new rice from Saga’s first Nature Coexistence Site
The NPO Karatsu Farm & Food has announced that new rice from Yokomakura Farm is available through Saga Prefecture’s Furusato Nozei (hometown tax donation) program. The rice, a Saga-native variety called ‘Yume Shizuku,’ was grown on 5.8 hectares of farmland in Ochi-cho, Karatsu City, which was previously slated to be abandoned.
The cultivation area is part of the Yokomakura region, which has been recognized by the Ministry of the Environment as Saga Prefecture’s first ‘Nature Coexistence Site’—a designation for areas where private initiatives help preserve biodiversity. The farming project involves local community members and international volunteers.
Donations of 15,000 yen or more for the 5kg bag of polished rice will support the NPO’s activities, including the conservation and restoration of the Nature Coexistence Site, marine plastic countermeasures, and environmental education.
