Yolanda Díaz faces CEOE pushback on salary‑transparency reform and is nominated for ILO chief

The Spanish business federation CEOE has submitted an amendment that strips most provisions of the salary‑transparency reform being drafted by Vice President and Labour Minister Yolanda Díaz. The federation argues the draft goes beyond the EU directive on pay transparency, adding administrative burdens and legal uncertainty for companies, and accuses the Ministry of Labour of hardening measures required by Brussels.

At the same time, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced that he will propose Díaz as Spain’s candidate for Director General of the International Labour Organization (ILO). Sánchez highlighted that her appointment would place a Spanish woman at the head of the UN agency for decent work, noting the role would bring a base salary of €170,000 plus additional allowances. The proposal follows Díaz’s recent statement that she would not run for the leadership of the Sumar coalition in the 2027 elections.
