Yolanda Hopkins advances to Trestles round of 16

Portuguese surfer Yolanda Hopkins advanced to the round of 16 at the World Surf League (WSL) Trestles event in San Clemente, California. In the first round, Hopkins defeated Australian Sally Fitzgibbons with a score of 11.96 points to Fitzgibbons' 11.37.

This victory is particularly significant as the Trestles stage concludes the regular phase of the Championship Tour, determining which athletes qualify for the second half of the season. Hopkins' performance strengthens her position in the fight to surpass the Championship Tour cut.

In the same round, fellow Portuguese surfer Francisca Veselko was eliminated after losing to Australian Tyler Wright. Hopkins is scheduled to face defending world champion Molly Picklum in the next round.
