Yom River monitoring intensifies in Sukhothai amid heavy rainfall

The Royal Irrigation Department is actively monitoring the Yom River basin in response to heavy rainfall and rising water levels. Officials have been deployed to Sukhothai to assess trends and implement water management strategies to handle runoff moving from upper to lower regions.

Recent heavy rains in Phayao and Phrae provinces have caused significant water flow. In Phayao, discharge reached 917 cubic meters per second, while in Sukhothai, levels at the Si Satchanalai station reached 688 cubic meters per second. While water levels in the central and lower Yom River are trending upward, they currently remain below bank levels.

To mitigate potential flooding in Sukhothai's urban areas, authorities are utilizing the Mae Yom sluice gate to control and drain water. The Royal Irrigation Department has ordered proactive measures, including water retention and advance drainage, while ensuring pumps, machinery, and personnel are on standby to respond to worsening conditions.
