Yomiuri Giants interim manager Hashigami vows 70‑player roster for August showdown
Interim manager Hashigami Hideki, age 60, told reporters that the Yomiuri Giants will mobilise all 70 players under contract during August, a month he described as a crucial "survival competition". The team faces a six‑game stretch beginning with a three‑game series at Mazda Stadium in Hiroshima, followed by four outdoor games that will test players’ heat management and conditioning.
Hashigami announced the demotion of foreign power hitter Cabbage to the minors indefinitely, citing his low clutch‑hitting average and the need to study Japanese pitching. At the same time, rookie Minagawa was promoted to the top squad after a three‑month stint in the farm team, and catcher Kishida was called up to replace the injured Yamase. The Giants have also completed a trade of Watanabe to the Seibu Lions and re‑signed development player Suzuki, restoring the 70‑player roster limit.
Hashigami emphasized that the team will use the full roster to navigate the tight schedule, manage outdoor‑stadium temperature differences, and secure victories that could keep the Giants near the league lead as the season heads into its final stretch.
