Yonaguni Monument remains a mystery in Okinawa

The Yonaguni Monument, a massive submerged structure located off the coast of Okinawa, Japan, continues to draw interest due to its unique geological or archaeological features. Discovered in 1987 by diver Kihachiro Aratake, the formation consists of rock platforms approximately 50 meters long and 20 meters wide, featuring right angles, steps of varying heights, and passages.

Often referred to as the ‘Japanese Atlantis,’ the site has sparked various theories, including links to the mythical lost continent of Mu or even Mayan civilizations, due to its pyramidal appearance. While some observers compare the underwater landscape to Machu Picchu, scientific debate continues regarding whether the structure is a man-made monument or a natural formation shaped by ocean currents.
