Yong Hye-in faces scrutiny over ministerial nomination

Yong Hye-in, the nominee for Minister of Gender Equality and Family, is facing intense scrutiny during the personnel hearing process. Key controversies include her intention to concurrently hold her seat as a proportional representative lawmaker, which critics argue constitutes an unfair privilege.

Opposition parties, specifically the People Power Party, have accused the administration of personnel mismanagement, alleging that Kim Hyun-ji, a close aide to President Lee Jae-myung, has exerted undue influence over appointments. Additionally, allegations have surfaced regarding Yong’s past criminal record involving traffic obstruction and violations of the Assembly and Demonstration Act, as well as claims of tax benefits related to political donations.
