Yongin City Council members call for rail safety and infrastructure funding
During the 306th regular session of the Yongin Special City Council, members raised critical issues regarding public infrastructure and safety within the city.
Council member Shin Hyeon-nyeo called for a comprehensive review of the Yongin Light Rail operating system. She emphasized the need for rigorous verification of operating companies, focusing on their railway experience, professional manpower, safety management capabilities, and emergency response skills. Shin urged the city to ensure that cost-cutting measures do not compromise field safety and requested clear oversight procedures to hold operators accountable for their contractual obligations.
Separately, Council member Kim Yun-seon addressed the lack of sports infrastructure and delayed road projects in Cheoin-gu. Kim highlighted the shortage of dedicated training spaces for boxing athletes and noted that the current facilities at Yongin Mir Stadium are inadequate. Additionally, Kim pointed out a significant funding gap for road projects in Cheoin-gu, noting that while 375.8 billion won is required for 129 projects, only 15 billion won has been secured this year. She urged the city to explore active financing methods, such as issuing local government bonds, to prevent further delays and rising costs.
