Yongin City launches feasibility study for three urban railway projects

Yongin City has launched a one-year preliminary feasibility study for three major urban railway projects aimed at expanding the regional transit network and improving economic viability. The initiative includes the construction of the 14.7km Dongbaek-Sinbong Line, the 6.8km Gwanggyo extension of the Yongin Light Rail, and the 6.87km Eonnam-Dongcheon Line.

The Dongbaek-Sinbong Line is designed to connect Dongbaek Station to Sinbong-dong, passing through key transit hubs such as Guseong Station (GTX-A and Suin-Bundang Line) and Seongbok Station (Shinbundang Line). The Gwanggyo extension seeks to link Giheung Station to Gwanggyo Jungang Station, potentially transforming the existing light rail into a vital east-west corridor, though it requires coordination with Suwon City.

The Eonnam-Dongcheon Line, which branches from the Dongbaek-Sinbong route, has already shown a cost-benefit ratio of 1.23 in preliminary city analyses. The ongoing study will incorporate recent developments, including the National High-Tech Semiconductor Industrial Complex, Yongin Platform City, and local housing projects, to ensure accurate demand forecasting and prepare for future national-level feasibility assessments.
