Yongin City restricts access to Cheongmi Stream due to avian influenza
Yongin Special City has announced access restrictions to the Cheongmi Stream area in Cheoin-gu, Baekam-myeon, following the detection of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) in wild bird excrement. The restrictions, which will remain in place until November 15, involve the installation of checkpoints to control the movement of unauthorized persons and vehicles.
To prevent the virus from spreading to poultry farms, the city has designated the Baekam and Wonsam areas within a 10km radius of the detection site as wild waterfowl surveillance zones. There are 29 poultry farms in these areas, housing approximately 1.16 million birds. These farms are now required to undergo rigorous testing when importing or exporting poultry.
Additionally, the city is intensifying surveillance across six major areas, including Jinwi Stream and several reservoirs, to monitor for abnormal wildlife behavior or carcasses. Disinfection vehicles have been deployed to migratory bird habitats and nearby roads. One poultry farm located within 500 meters of the detection site, housing 19,000 chickens, is scheduled for early shipment following preliminary testing.
