Yongin secures ownership of school access road after 24 years

Yongin Special City has successfully secured ownership of a school access road near Eondong Elementary and Middle School in Giheung-gu, resolving a 24-year dispute. The 935-square-meter area, consisting of seven parcels, had remained private property since the schools opened in 2002 due to failed donations from landowners.

To resolve the issue, the city utilized a combination of negotiations and legal action. While two private entities agreed to donate the land, the city had to file a lawsuit against a third organization. The Suwon District Court ruled in favor of the city based on the principle of ‘adverse possession,’ noting that the city had continuously maintained and managed the land for over 20 years.

Securing ownership allows the city to install essential safety infrastructure, such as canopies and safety fences, which were previously restricted due to the land's private status. The city plans to further improve the pedestrian environment in connection with the upcoming Yongin Eonnam Public Support Private Rental Housing Project.
