Yongin Special City completes new forest road section to boost disaster response
Yongin Special City has completed the construction of a new 0.7km section of a main forest road in the Hag-ri area of Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu. This project is part of a larger initiative to develop a total of 2.8km of forest roads in the region.
The new infrastructure is designed to improve response capabilities for forest disasters, such as wildfires and landslides, by providing easier access for management personnel and heavy equipment. To ensure safety and accessibility, the city reinforced drainage systems, stabilized slopes with protective structures to prevent soil erosion, and maintained a gentle gradient of less than 8% for vehicle passage.
Beyond disaster management, the city aims to use these roads to enhance forest management efficiency and provide citizens with better access to natural spaces for recreation. Yongin plans to complete the remaining sections by the end of 2027 and intends to connect the Hag-ri forest road with the Korea Forest Service's road network to create a circular forest road system connecting Wonsam-myeon to Idong-eup.
