Yoo Seung-min faces re-investigation request by prosecutors

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office has requested that the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency conduct a re-investigation into Yoo Seung-min, the president of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, regarding allegations of breach of trust and obstruction of business.

Previously, in July, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's financial crime unit had decided not to transfer the case to prosecutors, citing insufficient evidence. The police had concluded that Yoo's actions, including an incentive system for securing sponsorships during his tenure as president of the Korea Table Tennis Association and decisions regarding athlete selection for the Tokyo Olympics, did not constitute criminal offenses or were within his legitimate authority.

The prosecution's request for re-investigation follows a three-month review, potentially citing insufficient investigation, errors in fact-finding, or legal misinterpretations. If the request proceeds, the police are generally required to complete the re-investigation within three months. The development comes while Yoo is attending the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
