Yoo Seung-min urges People Power Party unity ahead of 2028 election

Former People Power Party lawmaker Yoo Seung-min warned that internal battles over the impeachment of former President Yoon Suk‑yeol are playing into the hands of President Lee Jae‑myung and the Democratic Party. He argued that the only way to stop what he called the "Lee regime's tyranny" is for the People Power Party to secure a majority in the April 2028 parliamentary election and reclaim the National Assembly.

Yoo criticised the Democratic Party’s recent amendment to the criminal procedure law that eliminated supplementary investigative powers, labeling it an example of majority‑party overreach. He called for “integration and innovation” within his party, stressing the need to win over centrist, metropolitan and youth voters, especially in the Seoul‑Incheon‑Gyeonggi region, which holds 122 seats. Citing recent polls that show the Democratic Party with roughly double the support of the People Power Party, Yoo warned that relying on isolated local victories, such as the recent Seoul mayoral win, would be insufficient.

He concluded that without genuine reform and a united front, the party cannot succeed in the next parliamentary or presidential contests.
