Yoon Sang-hyun urges Hormuz dispatch and criticizes cabinet reshuffle

South Korean lawmaker Yoon Sang-hyun of the People Power Party has called for a decisive decision regarding the potential dispatch of troops to the Hormuz Strait. Emphasizing that diplomacy requires timely action, Yoon noted that the government has already sent a local investigation team to the United Arab Emirates to review the matter. He argued that securing the Hormuz Strait is vital for South Korea's energy security, as approximately 70% of the nation's crude oil imports pass through the region.

Yoon suggested that while the dispatch should focus on defensive and non-combat roles—such as maritime patrol, search and rescue, and mine countermeasures—to avoid unnecessary combat risks, the move would strengthen the ROK-US alliance by sharing international responsibilities. He urged the government to clearly define the mission's scope, duration, and troop scale, while adhering to constitutional procedures.

In a separate political matter, Yoon also criticized the government's recent cabinet reshuffle, calling for its total withdrawal. He questioned the integrity of the presidential office's personnel vetting process, alleging that candidates were selected based on ideological affiliations rather than public standards. He specifically raised concerns regarding the appointments of several ministerial candidates, citing issues ranging from political background to allegations of corruption and past policy failures.
