Yopal ex-mayor Jhon Jairo Torres murder investigation points to FARC dissidents

A 17-year-old minor has accepted charges in the murder of Jhon Jairo Torres Torres, the former mayor of Yopal, known as ‘John Calzones’. The attack occurred on September 29 at a rural residence in Casanare. According to the Prosecutor's Office, the teenager acted as a passenger on a motorcycle and fired multiple shots at Torres. The suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended by the community after the motorcycle crashed.

The teenager faces charges of aggravated homicide and illegal possession of firearms. Under the Adolescent Criminal Responsibility System, he will remain in a specialized detention center.

Investigators are now exploring links to FARC dissidents associated with ‘Iván Mordisco’. Evidence from video footage and a seized mobile phone suggests a man known as ‘Eduard’, allegedly a member of the Front 28, operated the motorcycle used in the crime. Authorities are also verifying potential connections to the Jaime Martínez Front of the Western Block. While the suspects have been identified, the specific motive and the individual who ordered the assassination remain under investigation.
