York A1237 Outer Ring Road to undergo overnight resurfacing

The City of York Council has announced overnight resurfacing works on a section of the A1237 Outer Ring Road. The project, carried out by Lane Rentals Services, will focus on the approach to the Haxby Road roundabout and the roundabout itself.

Starting at 8pm on Monday, 21 September 2026, the A1237 will close in both directions between the Wigginton Road roundabout and the Strensall Road roundabout. The closures are expected to last for up to five nights, with work scheduled to conclude by 6am on Saturday, 26 September, depending on weather conditions. The road is expected to reopen each morning at 6am.

A signed diversion route will be implemented using Malton Road, Heworth Green, Lord Mayors Walk, Gillygate, Bootham/A19, and the A1237. Local diversions will also be available for properties in New Earswick and Haxby Road via Wigginton Road. While the off-road cycle route between Wigginton Road and Haxby Road remains open, a separate cycle diversion will be in place to link various local routes.
