York builds new care home and clears old site for affordable housing

St Mary’s Care Homes is completing Acomb Manor Care Home in Holgate, York. The 66‑bed facility, offering residential, dementia and respite care, is slated to open in early winter 2026 and will employ around 75 staff. Designed as a fully electric, energy‑efficient building, it features en‑suite rooms, communal lounges, an on‑site pub and hair salon.

The City of York Council has approved the demolition of the vacant 1975 Willow House care home on Long Lane Close. Preparatory work will begin next spring, after which the site will be redeveloped into 36 affordable homes for up to 117 residents, funded by brownfield and One Public Estate grants.
