York finalizes November vote on ambulance service bailout

The York Select Board has finalized a ballot question for a November vote regarding a potential financial bailout for the York Ambulance Association. If approved by voters, the town would allocate up to $500,000 to assist the independent nonprofit, which is facing significant debt that has more than doubled since August.

The proposed funding includes a $300,000 payout alongside monthly payments, contingent on the association meeting specific conditions. These conditions include creating two board seats for town-approved candidates. Select Board members have expressed concerns regarding the association’s budget transparency and communication.

In addition to the bailout proposal, the board voted 5-0 to hire Criterion Associates, a Maryland-based public safety consulting firm. The firm will conduct a $47,000 feasibility study to determine the viability of transitioning to a town-run EMS service once the current contract expires on July 1.
