York ranked as UK most liveable city in new study
A new ranking of the United Kingdom’s most liveable cities has identified York as the top location, according to a study using Wise’s Cost of Living Index. The ranking assessed 25 locations based on a liveability score derived from quality of life, safety, and healthcare indices.
York secured the top position with a score of 85, supported by a monthly surplus of £872 and rent costs representing 35 per cent of pay. Norwich followed in second place with a score of 81.3, while Edinburgh ranked third with 80.3. The study noted that the most liveable areas tend to be more affordable, with Scotland and Northern England emerging as strong regions overall.
Beyond specific rankings, managing urban living costs remains a priority for families. Effective strategies include creating comprehensive budgets that account for both regular and irregular expenses, such as childcare and school uniforms. Reviewing household bills for energy, broadband, and mobile services, as well as assessing total transport costs, are also highlighted as ways to mitigate the financial pressures of city life.
