Yorkton receives $36.6M for major infrastructure project
Yorkton has secured approximately $36.6 million in federal and provincial funding to launch the largest infrastructure project in the city’s history. The investment is part of a broader $74 million joint funding initiative for water, wastewater, sewer, and drainage projects across Saskatchewan.
The primary focus of the local funding is Phase 1 of the Yorkton Water Pollution Control Plant Renewal Project. This includes upgrades to the H. M. Bailey Water Pollution Control Plant headworks facility to increase treatment capacity. Officials state the improvements are designed to accommodate future residential and commercial growth, potentially supporting the development of roughly 7,150 additional housing units while improving environmental outcomes for Yorkton Creek and the Assiniboine watershed.
The federal government is contributing over $40.1 million through the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund, while the province of Saskatchewan is providing nearly $33.4 million. Municipal governments will also contribute a combined $26.3 million toward their respective projects.
