Yorktown community holds vigil for slain high school football star
Hundreds of community members, students, and family gathered at the Yorktown High School football field on Saturday to hold a prayer vigil for Christopher Wilson Jr., a 17-year-old star football player. Wilson, a senior defensive end known as ‘The Big One,’ was found dead in a vehicle by the Muncie Police Department on October 5 with multiple gunshot wounds.
During the memorial, attendees released hundreds of green, black, and white balloons in the school’s colors. Family members, including his mother Tywanna Price and stepfather Derrick Price, spoke about his impact on the community. Wilson had recently committed to playing college football at West Virginia University and had aspirations of reaching the NFL.
While the community mourned the loss of the student, loved ones expressed a desire for justice. Muncie police have not yet identified any suspects or released a motive regarding the shooting.
