Yoshihiko Noda distributes political flyers at Chiba station
Former Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, who served from 2011 to 2012, was recently seen distributing political newsletters to commuters at Minami-Funabashi Station in Chiba.
Rather than a sudden decline in status, the activity is a long-standing grassroots political strategy. Noda has reportedly maintained a routine of leafleting at train stations since 1986, a practice he has upheld for nearly four decades. His current efforts involve distributing newsletters covering local issues such as disaster insurance, child support, and prefectural reform to maintain direct contact with his local voter base in the Chiba 4th district.
While some commuters recognized the former leader and greeted him, many passersby did not notice him. Noda has stated that he prefers this method of direct, quiet engagement over using megaphones, viewing it as a way to invest time and effort into personal connection with citizens rather than relying on large campaign expenditures.
