Sport Boys defeats Sporting Cristal amid institutional shifts

Sport Boys secured a 1-0 victory against Sporting Cristal at the Miguel Grau Stadium, marking their first win against the Lima-based club in nearly 19 years. The winning goal was scored by Hernán Da Campo in first-half stoppage time. The match featured a notable confrontation between former national teammates Christian Cueva and Yoshimar Yotún.

Following the defeat, Sporting Cristal faced internal difficulties, including technical issues at the stadium that prevented players from showering and a canceled press conference for coach Roberto Mosquera. Additionally, former president Felipe Cantuarias revealed that two historical figures recently made a formal, though rejected, offer to Innova Sports to purchase the club amid ongoing institutional and sporting crises.

In separate developments, the Callao Regional Government has committed over 400,000 soles annually to support Sport Boys through infrastructure benefits, including the use of the Miguel Grau Stadium and the Telmo Carbajo Sports Complex. Meanwhile, the club is working to secure key players like Mathías Llontop, Emilio Saba, and Hernán Da Campo to build a competitive squad for its centenary in 2027.
