Yoshiya Sugawara faces defensive challenges at Cagliari

Cagliari manager Fabio Pisacane has addressed why Japanese defender Yoshiya Sugawara has yet to earn a starting position in Serie A. Although Sugawara has appeared in three consecutive league matches, all have been as a substitute.

Pisacane noted that while Sugawara possesses high technical ability on the ball and excellent shooting skills, he needs to improve his defensive play when not in possession. Specifically, the manager emphasized the need for Sugawara to better restrict opponents' time and space and prevent crosses.

Currently, Portuguese defender Zé Pedro is maintaining strong performances, securing the starting role at right-back. Pisacane indicated that while Sugawara remains in consideration for the starting lineup, he must address these defensive shortcomings to compete for the position.
