You Shu-chen emphasizes national identity through flag-raising traditions

Kuomintang Hualien County mayoral candidate You Shu-chen shared a reflection on the significance of the national flag, noting that her commitment to hosting annual Double Tenth Day flag-raising ceremonies stems from a memory 30 years ago. She recalled seeing an elderly man in Ji'an Township carefully hanging the flag, an image that instilled in her a sense of the connection between national identity and personal history.

You emphasized that the flag represents more than just a symbol, carrying the collective memories of previous generations. She highlighted the emotional impact of seeing veterans and their grandchildren participating in flag-raising activities together, viewing it as a way to pass patriotic sentiments across generations. As a candidate, she pledged to uphold the spirit of the Constitution of the Republic of China and focus on the welfare of Hualien families.
