Young Africans terminate head coach Manqoba Mngqithi

Tanzanian football club Young Africans (Yanga) has announced the immediate termination of head coach Manqoba Mngqithi and first-team conditioning coach Chyna Mokaila. The decision follows a 0–0 draw against TRA United in the Tanzanian Premier League.

Mngqithi, a South African tactician, joined the club in July 2026 on a two-year contract. Despite his short three-month tenure, his record included 10 wins, two draws, and one loss in 13 competitive matches. Under his leadership, the club won the Tanzanian Community Shield and secured qualification for the 2026–27 CAF Champions League group stage after an aggregate 8–1 victory over Madagascar’s CFFA.

Reports suggest the dismissal was influenced by recent results, including a 2–1 defeat to arch-rivals Simba SC in the Kariakoo Derby, which left Yanga five points behind the league leaders. Additionally, some reports indicate internal friction, suggesting senior players were dissatisfied with Mngqithi’s pragmatic and defensive tactical approach. The club has initiated an urgent search for a new head coach.
