Young Americans show rising interest in religion and socialism
Recent data indicates a shifting ideological landscape among young Americans, characterized by a simultaneous rise in religious engagement among young men and growing support for socialism within Gen Z.
According to Gallup, the percentage of young men stating religion is very important to them rose from 28% to 42% over a two-year period. Concurrently, a Cato poll found that 53% of Gen Z respondents hold a favorable view of socialism compared to 45% for capitalism. A CBS/YouGov survey further noted that only 9% of Americans under 30 hold a very positive view of capitalism.
In the political sphere, Democratic politics are seeing increased influence from the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). Figures such as New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are associated with the movement, which advocates for expanded government roles in housing, healthcare, and industry regulation. Critics of this trend warn of potential budget shortfalls and the economic risks of excessive government spending and high taxation.
