Young Boys appeal against Edimilson Fernandes suspension fails

The Swiss football club Young Boys has failed in its appeal to overturn a two-match suspension for player Edimilson Fernandes. The disciplinary action stemmed from a red card issued during a match against FC St. Gallen, which the Swiss Football Association later acknowledged was a mistake.

According to the association, the correct decision should have been a direct free kick and a yellow card rather than a dismissal. However, the disciplinary ruling classified the incident as a serious foul play. The appeal was rejected because regulations state that a referee's factual decision cannot be reviewed by disciplinary authorities unless there is an obvious error, such as a misidentification of the player.

As a result, the 30-year-old Fernandes will miss the upcoming home match against FC Zürich and the following away match against FC Luzern. Despite the setback, Young Boys remains undefeated after eleven league matches, currently holding second place in the standings.
