Young investors face steep losses as stock markets tumble

Swedish markets saw the Stockholm Stock Exchange reach new highs while inflation eased, but a rumor of a merger between drug giant AstraZeneca and U.S. competitor Bristol Myers Squibb sent AstraZeneca shares sharply lower. Financial journalists noted that many young Swedish savers are chasing high‑risk returns despite the volatility.

In South Korea, the Kospi index has lost about one‑third of its value since its June peak. Young Korean investors are documenting their losses on TikTok and Instagram, often using humor and dance videos to cope with the downturn. Posts reference heavy losses in holdings of companies such as Samsung and SK Hynix, highlighting the widespread impact of the market slide on the region’s youth.

Both stories illustrate how falling stock prices and merger speculation are prompting young investors in different countries to share their financial setbacks online.
