YoungColor Mozambique launches youth employment and business barometer
YoungColor Mozambique has introduced a new weekly publication, Lupa YoungColor Mozambique, designed to provide data-driven insights for communication, marketing, and advertising professionals. The initiative aims to assist businesses in making strategic decisions regarding brands, audiences, and communication strategies.
The inaugural edition focuses on youth employment and entrepreneurship, utilizing data from the Afrobarometer Round 10 study conducted by CS Research. The study, which surveyed 1,200 adults in Mozambique between July and September 2025, reveals significant trends among the 18 to 35 age demographic.
According to the findings, 65% of respondents in this age group are unemployed and actively seeking work, while 21% are unemployed and not looking. Regarding career preferences, 46% expressed a desire to start their own business, 31% preferred the public sector, and 13% chose private companies.
Key barriers to employment identified include a lack of training (cited by 30%) and a lack of required experience (cited by 19%). When asked about public spending priorities for youth, 51% advocated for job creation, 20% for access to credit for small businesses, and 8% for vocational training.
