Youngstown House Fire Rescues 11-Year-Old from Locked Dog Cage
Early Monday, a fire broke out at a residence on Forest View Drive in Youngstown, Ohio. Fire crews reported heavy smoke and flames; three occupants escaped safely while a fourth, an 11‑year‑old boy, was discovered locked inside a dog cage with three locks in a first‑floor bedroom. An unidentified rescuer freed the child, who was taken to medical care for minor injuries and placed under the custody of Mahoning County Children Services.
Youngstown Police and Fire Departments are treating the blaze as a possible arson and have opened investigations into the cause of the fire and how the boy ended up confined. The boy’s father has denied that the child was intentionally locked in the cage, claiming it was a family pet cage the boy sometimes entered. No criminal charges have been announced pending the ongoing inquiry.
