Youssef El Jendi criticizes Moroccan public TV production monopolies

Moroccan actor Youssef El Jendi has publicly criticized the management of television production tenders by Al Aoula and the National Radio and Television Company (SNRT). In a video shared on social media, El Jendi alleged a monopoly within the public broadcasting sector, claiming that despite multiple calls for tenders held annually, a small group of approximately four production companies consistently secures the major contracts.

El Jendi argued that this pattern restricts opportunities for other companies, which are often left to compete for much smaller projects. He further noted that this concentration of contracts leads to the repetitive use of the same directors, actors, and screenwriters, effectively closing the door to new talent and competition.

The actor highlighted the professional and social consequences of this system, stating that it contributes to forced unemployment among dozens of national talents, including actors, directors, and writers whose creative works fail to reach the screen. He called for a review of the tender process to ensure transparency, equal opportunity, and better governance in the management of public funds.
