Youth councils in Zadar and Rijeka promote civic engagement
Youth councils in Zadar and Rijeka are highlighting their recent initiatives and the importance of youth civic engagement in observance of International Youth Day.
The Zadar County Youth Council presented its activities at the Višnjik Sports Center in collaboration with the Zadar Red Cross. The council is currently managing 11 initiatives covering mental health, digital literacy, culture, sport, and social engagement. Their campaign, ‘Youth are not just one topic,’ aims to emphasize the diverse needs and interests of young people and encourage them to play an active role in their communities.
In Rijeka, the Youth Council reported on its first six months of activity, focusing on connecting young citizens with the city administration and local associations. Council members and city officials emphasized the need for Rijeka to be a city that listens to young people, allowing them to participate in decision-making processes rather than being mere observers. The council's current program, ‘Assertive Youth Council,’ focuses on persistent and evidence-based advocacy to improve the position of youth within the city.
