Youth electric scooter trends spark new social discourse in Poland
A new social phenomenon is emerging among youth in Poland involving the use of high-speed electric scooters. The term ‘kukiryniarz’ has entered the public discourse to pejoratively describe teenagers who ride fast, often breaking traffic regulations, and filming their stunts for social media platforms like TikTok.
The term is derived from KuKirin, a brand known for producing fast electric scooters that are popular for tuning. While the term carries a negative connotation, experts suggest this is not a formal subculture with a specific ideology, but rather a collection of peer groups. For some, scooters are a means of transport, while for others, modified high-end models serve as status symbols and a way to demonstrate independence from adult supervision.
