Youth rights and legal protections see developments in Argentina and Colombia

In Corrientes, Argentina, General Prosecutor César Sotelo has established the Area of Childhood and Adolescence within the Case Reception and Analysis Unit (Ufrac). This move follows the implementation of Law No. 6736, which created a juvenile criminal court system. The new area aims to prioritize the best interests of the child, focusing on social reintegration and protection rather than purely punitive measures, in alignment with United Nations standards.

In Colombia, following the murder of a 17-year-old trans woman in Medellín, new resources have been introduced to support transgender and non-binary youth. The Liga de Salud Trans y Familias de Adolescencias e Infancias Trans (Fait) released a guide titled ‘Cuidar sin miedo, acompañar con amor’ (Care without fear, accompany with love). The document emphasizes the principle of progressive autonomy, encouraging families and caregivers to provide evidence-based support and safe environments for children and adolescents navigating gender identity.
