Youth saves dog from floodwaters in Nogales, Sonora

Heavy rains across Sonora on July 20, 2026 created strong currents and flooding in the border city of Nogales.

A local young man, wearing a yellow raincoat, threw a lasso over a dog being swept by the water and pulled the animal to safety. The rescue was recorded on video and soon went viral, drawing praise for the rescuer’s quick action and compassion.

Civil protection officials warned residents to avoid crossing flooded streets and streams, noting that the recent storms have caused damage to homes, businesses and roadways throughout the state.
