Youth skill development emphasized in Malaysia and Singapore

Leaders in Malaysia and Singapore are emphasizing the importance of specialized education and technical skills for youth to meet future economic demands.

In Malaysia, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail highlighted Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) as a vital pathway for developing a skilled workforce. She noted that nearly 55 percent of Malaysian secondary school leavers currently pursue higher education or vocational training, with a national target of 70 percent by 2030. She stressed that education should encompass skill development and character building to ensure high employability.

In Singapore, Dr Wan Rizal Wan Zakariah urged Malay/Muslim youth to cultivate interests in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). He stated that strengthening STEM skills is foundational for emerging sectors. He also suggested utilizing professional networks to provide youth with international internship opportunities to gain broader regional experience.
