Youth unemployment rises in Östra Göinge and Södertälje
Youth unemployment has seen an upward trend in several Swedish municipalities. In Östra Göinge, the rate rose to 17.1 percent last quarter, affecting approximately 100 young people. Notably, the municipality lacks available positions that do not require formal education.
In Södertälje, youth unemployment increased from 7.4 percent to 8.7 percent during the third quarter. While this remains above the national average of 7.6 percent, it represents an improvement compared to the same period last year, when the rate was 9.3 percent. In Södertälje, a significant gender gap exists, with male unemployment at 10.2 percent compared to 7.1 percent for females.
Data from Sambla Group indicates that across these regions, male youth unemployment tends to be higher than female unemployment. In Östra Göinge, the gap is particularly wide, with males at 21.5 percent and females at 12.3 percent. Experts suggest these disparities highlight specific groups struggling to enter the labor market, necessitating better support from schools and employers.
