Youth Word of the Year 2026 finalists announced

The finalists for the 2026 Youth Word of the Year have been announced by PONS Langenscheidt. The three terms entering the final voting round are ‘Crashout’, ‘Ragebait’, and ‘Peak’. These terms, largely derived from social media, gaming, and English-language internet trends, accounted for 43 percent of the votes in previous rounds.

‘Ragebait’ refers to provocative or absurd content designed to trigger anger and encourage user interaction through comments. ‘Crashout’ describes a sudden, extreme emotional outburst or loss of control, while ‘Peak’ is also among the top contenders.

Voting is open to youths aged 11 to 20 until September 28. The winner will be officially revealed by PONS Langenscheidt on October 10 during the Frankfurt Book Fair.
