YouTube limits monetization for AI‑generated low‑quality videos
YouTube has tightened its Partner Program rules, cutting ad revenue for channels that mass‑produce AI‑generated or CGI videos, create sensationalist click‑bait content, or present AI‑generated personas that give financial, medical or legal advice. The platform will also exclude such youth‑harmful AI content from its recommendation algorithms. The new policy, announced in mid‑July, defines three categories of disallowed content: generic repetitive videos produced by automated tools, emotionally manipulative videos that exploit viewers, and AI‑generated virtual personalities lacking a real human presence. YouTube’s Vice President of Trust & Safety, Matt Halprin, said the measures aim to stop the surge of “AI slop” that undermines quality and spreads unverified information. Meta is taking similar steps in South Korea, making teen‑inappropriate content harder to find via search and removing it from recommendations. The changes signal a shift from merely deleting offending videos to preventing their creation and monetisation altogether.
