Mochimaru Nikki YouTube channel to end activities in December

The popular YouTube channel ‘Mochimaru Nikki’, which features the daily lives of Scottish Fold cats Mochimaru and Hanamaru, has announced it will cease activities on December 13, 2026. The announcement coincides with the channel’s seventh anniversary.

The creator, referred to as ‘Geboku’, explained that the decision was made after long deliberation. The choice to retire was prompted by Mochimaru reaching the age of seven, marking the beginning of the cat’s senior years. The creator noted that balancing work and private life alongside the channel’s growth had led to reflections on how long to continue the service.

Mochimaru previously gained international recognition, being certified by Guinness World Records in August 2021 as the ‘most viewed cat on YouTube’. While video production will end, the channel itself will remain active. The creator expressed gratitude to the 1.99 million subscribers for their support, which has enabled involvement in rescue cat activities and material support.
