YouTube creators targeted by brand deal phishing scams
A sophisticated phishing scheme is targeting YouTube content creators by impersonating legitimate global brands to hijack Google accounts. The scam often begins with personalized sponsorship emails that reference specific content from the creator's channel to establish credibility.
In one documented instance, fraudsters impersonated Hollyland, a manufacturer of audiovisual equipment. After initial negotiations regarding rates, victims are directed to a fraudulent collaboration platform designed to look professional. This platform is used to solicit login credentials under the guise of verifying channel performance statistics, agreements, or payments. Investigators have identified multiple variants of this campaign where scammers repackage the tactic using different brand identities and domains.
