YouTube introduces AI search features and mobile interface redesign
YouTube is implementing significant updates to its platform, including new artificial intelligence features and a major redesign of its mobile interface.
Alphabet-owned YouTube is expanding its AI capabilities to improve search efficiency and user interaction. New AI-driven search suggestions will provide users with carousels of recommended videos accompanied by AI-generated summaries for specific topics, such as travel or shopping. Currently, these experimental search features are being rolled out to select Premium subscribers in the United States in English. Additionally, the platform is expanding its conversational AI tool, which allows users to ask contextual questions about video content and explore academic topics.
In terms of user interface, YouTube is moving the ‘Subscriptions’ tab from the bottom navigation bar—where it has resided since 2017—to a new top bar within the ‘Home’ tab on Android and iOS devices. This redesign aims to make the home page more intuitive and introduces specialized feeds for live streams, music, and movies or TV content. The update also includes the introduction of customizable feeds, allowing users to describe specific moods or topics to generate personalized content streams.
