YouTube tests custom feeds for personalized content

YouTube is developing a new feature called ‘Your custom feeds’ to give users more control over their homepage content. Instead of relying solely on standard algorithmic recommendations, users will be able to provide text descriptions of the types of videos they wish to watch. The platform will then generate a personalized feed based on those descriptions.

Users can create and save multiple feeds for different interests, such as nature footage, home projects, or specific authors. This feature aims to help viewers find content that matches their current mood or specific research topics without repetitive searching. Testing has shown that the system can refine results further; for example, users can specify preferences like ‘without AI-generated content’ or request specific styles like ‘videos without speech.’

The feature is expected to launch first in the United States across web, mobile, and television platforms. Google has not yet announced a specific release date for users in Europe.
