YouTuber Park We faces controversy over high lecture fees

YouTuber Park We is facing intense public scrutiny following revelations regarding his high lecture fees and a recent controversy involving a CCTV video. According to minutes from the Dongjak-gu Administrative and Finance Committee, the Dongjak Cultural Foundation noted that Park has requested between 10 million and 15 million KRW for a two-hour lecture.

While other local governments have paid Park varying amounts—ranging from approximately 4.4 million to 6 million KRW—the reported figures have sparked backlash from netizens questioning the use of public funds. Author So Jae-won also criticized the disparity, noting that professional writers often receive significantly lower compensation.

The fee controversy follows a separate backlash after Park released CCTV footage on his channel, ‘We Miracle,’ showing a fall involving his wheelchair and a social service agent on a KTX train. Although Park stated the video was intended to promote better accessibility, critics argued that publishing the footage of the worker, who had already apologized, was excessive. Park has since deleted the video and issued an apology, but continues to face canceled engagements and a decline in subscribers.

In response to the situation, former singer Ko Young-wook mocked Park on social media, suggesting he might consider giving lectures in prisons to capitalize on the controversy.
